An Evolutionary Approach for TMN Management of IN Services

The provision of pan-European IN-based services is currently an emerging issue within the European Community. This paper introduces the work being performed in EURESCOM (a research institute jointly owned by the majority of Public Nework Operators in Europe) on the management of pan-European IN-based services using a TMN approach. An important aspect of this project is to derive an evolutionary path for the management of IN services in Europe. The evolution approach is based on the definition of a long term scenario and on the development of both medium term and long term solutions for the provision of a set of generic TMN management services and respective information models based on appropriate organisational management models. The results described in this paper are related to the definition of a long term scenario and a medium term scenario for the TMN-based management of pan-European IN sevices and include: the definition of the relevant actors and roles, the identification of corresponding management requirements, and the development of organisational models suitable for co-operative or joint management arrangements between PNOs in Europe for the envisaed time frames. This work is currently being realised by the EURESCOM Project P226 entitled “TMN Management of IN-based Services” with the support of the following participating companies: Telecom Portugal (leader), BT, DBP Telekom, France Telecom, Royal PTT Netherlands, STET Italy, Swedish Telecom, TLP Portugal, Telefonica de Espana, Telecom Finland, and Telecom Ireland.
