Desenhar a linha: a fronteira luso-galega do Alto Minho na cartografia militar portuguesa dos séculos XVII-XIX

Resumen : La delimitacion de la frontera luso-gallega de la Provincia de Entre Duero y Mino es anterior a la fundacion de Portugal, aunque su confirmacion y configuracion actuales solo se establecieran con la firma del Tratado de Limites de 1864. En un primero momento, esta frontera politica no coincidia ni con la frontera linguistica ni, tampoco, con la frontera cultural, por lo que la Corona y el Poder Central emprendieron el esfuerzo de demarcar militarmente la Raya para delimitar su soberania. En este texto se analizara la aportacion de diversas representaciones graficas de este sector de la frontera –mapas, vistas, planos y dibujos– a la fijacion de una linea de separacion politica entre los dos paises. Abstract : The delimitation of the Portuguese-Galician border in the province of Entre Douro and Minho dates to before the foundation of Portugal, but its current configuration was only established by the Treaty of Limits of 1864. Originally, this political frontier was based on neither linguistic nor cultural realities, and so both the Crown and the Central Power resorted to military means for delineating the border and demarcating its sovereignty. In this paper, we will analyse the role played by different graphical representations—maps, views, plans and drawings—of this section of the border in establishing the line of political separation between the two countries.
