Clinical Study of Sulfasalazine Plus Metronidazole and Yunnanbaiyao as a Retension Enema in Patients with Active Ulcerative Colitis

Objective:To study the effect of Sulfasalazine (SASP) plus Metronidazol and Yunnanbaiyao as a retention enema in patients with active ulcerative colitis.Methods:45 patients were administered by retention enema with SASP plus Metronidazole and Yunnanbaiyao (treated group ) for 2 weeks and then administered with oral SASP and Metronidazole for 22 weeks ; and other 40 patients were treated by only oral SASP and Metronidazole for 24 weeks as a contol group.Results:The effective rates and curing rates in treated group and control group were 100.0% vs 75.0% and 93.3% vs 47.5% respectively(P 0.001 ,P 0.01 ). Conclusion:The methods of SASP plus Metronidazole and Yunnabaiyao as a retention enema is effective and safe for active ulcerative colitis.
