Association study on 30bp variable number of tandem repeat polymorphism of monoamine oxidase A gene and anger-related personality traits

2012
Objective: To discuss the possible association between the 30bp variable number of tandem repeat polymorphism in the promoter region of the monoamine oxidase A gene(MAOA-VNTR) and anger-related personality traits. Methods: A totle of 2 864 health of college students were investigated with the state-trait anger expression inventory 2(STAXI-2).The 30bp variable number of tandem repeat polymorphism were genotyped by Polymerase chain reaction(PCR).The distribution frequency of genotype and allel were analyzed between the high and low trait anger group, and the anger control and expression in different genotypes were also analyzed. Results: There are four alleles of 30bp variable number of tandem repeat: 2R,3R,4R and 5R,with the most common being the 3R and 4R.There is no significant difference on distribution of common genotype and allel frequency between the high and low trait anger group. The expression of anger of the different genotype had no statistically significant difference in scores. Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between the 30bp variable number of tandem repeat polymorphism in the monoamine oxidase A gene and anger-related personality traits in Chinese health students.
