Transient short circuit current calculation using decoupled networks

1999
Classical fault analysis methods for power systems are based on symmetrical components to represent various fault configurations. The complete electrical network is decomposed using a complex transformation matrix into decoupled zero, positive and negative sequence circuits. Faulted power system steady-state voltages and currents are computed using a nodal analysis solution method. This paper presents an extension of the above methodology using discretized RLC elements for the computation of the actual transient response of a network for various fault types. The decoupled networks are obtained using a real transformation matrix.
