Self-awareness becomes an important part in disaster education that students must have. Selfawareness has a major role in improving students' ability to live in the event of a disaster. Most of disasters come
at any time. Cases of students become victims on disasters event was occur in many countries. This indicates that
students become vulnerable people who must be protected. This research uses explanatory approach with
purposive sampling method. Researchers use questionnaires as a primary data collection tool and randomized
unstructured interviews for secondary data. The data processed using excel and presented by tabulation or
diagram. The results served by description and comparison with the other finding researches that have same theme.
The results showed that most students had a sufficient level of disaster knowledge in their area. The students also
have experience event of earthquakes directly. The actions taken by students during a disaster are appropriate in
accordance with the recommendations for safety during a disaster. The students have the variant of the answer
related survival perception. Students who live in disaster-prone areas actually have quite high self-awareness of
disasters. This result can be used as recommendation to the government and schools to provide a better disaster
education.
