Relevance of Ethics in the current medical practice

Practice of Medicine has undergone a sea of change. This has affected the Doctor-Patient relationships. Apart from the medical Council of India, the State is trying to control practice of Medicine. As professionals we have to follow ethical principles in our practice. This article will explore the different ethical principles that are involved in the re- registration of doctor and the state rulings. State is trying to control prices of drugs and medical equipment. Both the MCI and Government are insisting on use of generic drugs. Judiciary has passed certain strictures. Physicians have reacted to these measures sometimes with anger and frustrations. Applying the four principles of medical ethics many of these measures can be justified. It is necessary that physicians need to protect themselves from the law of the land. Way a physician can protect him/her is by leading a virtuous life and following the laws of the land.
