The Study on slipping water layers of cohesive sediment particles

Based upon the electric double layer theory and analysis of flocculation mechanics an exact definition of the water layer attached on surface of fine sediment particle was proposed by means of slipping water layer corresponding to the ζ potential. A formula for calculating the electric potential distribution within the electric double layer was further deduced, and the method combining calculation of electric potential distribution and measurement of ζ potential for sediment particles was presented in detail to determine the thickness of the slipping water layer. A case study was then introduced to show the rationality of the definition and the method herein.
