Filter element and method for its preparation

Filter element, which is installed in a housing having a dirt side and a clean side, the filter element has the following components: a folded or wavy filter portion (100, 100A-100E) comprising a laminated filter material, and a flange portion (200, 200A, 200B) composed of the laminated filter material, integral with the outer periphery of the filter portion (100, 100A-100E) for storing or supporting said filter portion (100, 100A-100E), wherein the flange portion (200, 200A, 200B) has the following components: a thick sealing portion (220, 220A-220D), a thin compressed connection portion (210) for connecting the sealing portion (220, 220A-220D) with the filter portion (100, 100A-100E), and a thin compressed protecting portion (230) disposed about the seal portion (220, 220A-220D) for the mechanical support of the sealing portion (220, 220A-220D).
