John Calvin, Pierre Viret and the State
2009
The proper nature of the relationship between religion and politics, between church and state has always been an area of much debate and discussion. John Calvin and his ideas of the state are examined. His thoughts are compared with the findings of Pierre Viret, Calvin's close friend and associate on the subject. Viret, a popular and influential Reformed minster in Switzerland and France during the first-generation of the Reformation, shared many of Calvin's political views.
