3LH-8 : A smoke risk assessment by Chung's equations 1, 2, 3

2020
This study was investigated to test the combustion properties of wood specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on smoke performance index which is smoke hazard properties. Smoke release properties were measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1) and used cypress wood. The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Smoke performance index increased by 403 ~2871% compared to uncoated specimens, respectively. And it increased in the order of apatite, zirconium silicate, mica. The smoke growth index decreased by 79 ~ 97% and it decreased in order of apatite, zirconium silicate, mica. Smoke intensity decreased by 80 ~ 99% and it decreased in order of apatite, zirconium silicate, mica. The smoke hazard properties of all specimens coated with flame retardant was reduced and mica was the best flame retardant.
