Glycogenic acanthosis of the bilateral buccal mucosa: Report of a case☆

2013
Abstract We report a very rare case of glycogenic acanthosis of the bilateral buccal mucosa. The patient was a 46-year-old man who presented with white lesions of the bilateral buccal mucosa. These white lesions showed plaque-like thickening of the mucosa, whiter than the surrounding mucosa. Biopsy specimen revealed enlarged squamous cells with abundant clear cytoplasm and positive periodic acid-Schiff staining. Histopathological diagnosis was glycogenic acanthosis. Endoscopy examination also revealed multiple areas of glycogenic acanthosis of the esophagus.
