Deodorization of Waste Gases in Packed Columns with Immobilized Activated Sludge Gel Beads

1992
In the earlier work [1], the activated sludge acclimated on acetaldehyde was immobilized, and the properties of the gel beads were clarified. Removal of acetaldehyde was carried out in a column packed with them, and the performance was analyzed based on a simple design equation. In this work, the removal was done in the various types of packed beds and done with supply of a minimum nutrient solution to the bed in order to establish a steady removal for the longest possible period. The results obtained, were analyzed to predict the performance. Deodorization in the packed bed was also examined for removal of malodorant from steam sterilization of a culture medium.
