A Magnetic Shielding Type Superconducting Fault-Current Limiter
1999
In a Magnetic Shielding type Fault-Current Limiter (MSFCL), the characteristics of the magnetic field penetration of the superconducting cylinder (SC-cylinder) is an important factor in limiting the current flow. In this study, to improve the efficiency of the fault current action of the MSFCL, we fabricated SC-cylinders that partially have the low-Jc region, and evaluated the distribution of the penetrating rate along the axial direction of SC cylinders. Then we observed the wave form of voltage under the fault condition, using the proto-type limiter. Finally, the change of impedance of MSFCL with the new-type SC-cylinder was larger than that of MSFCL with superconducting cylinder which has an homogeneously distribution of Jc.
