Communication, psychosocial adjustment and academic skills of children with cochlear implants in mainstream schools: the schoolteacher's perspective

2004
By referring to the data of acoustical analysis of the temporal pattern of voice pitch in Chinese and Japanese speech sounds and their perceptual judgements by the normalhearing listeners (Chuang and Hiki, 1972), it was estimated that the resolution of voice pitch of a half whole step in diatonic scale in high/low contrast, and a whole step/0.4 s in flat/rise contrast are necessary. Such resolution is expected to be achieved through the cochlear implant devices now in use, if the testing and training procedures in this system are applied effectively.
