Variation of quality traits in durum wheat in relation to variety and environment

2001
The success of German durum wheat production depends on the realisation of the demands for high quality standard by the German durum milling and pasta industry. Quality is a complex of different traits which are influenced by genotypic and environmental factors. The knowledge of the corresponding extent of variation is relevant for assigning priorities with regard to growing regions and for the recommendation of cultivars. The results of federal official trials in Germany supply the information. Relatively high genetic influence on ash content, yellow pigmentation and SDS-sedimentation emphasising these factors as typical cultivar characteristics. Reflecting vitreousness and black point the highest parts of explained variation are related to locations and location x year interactions.
