LIFE PREDICTION OF EXISTING REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES DETERMINED BY CORROSION

1994
This paper presents the summary of the proposed life prediction method and its applicability to the results of a field investigation. In this paper, a life prediction method was proposed for reinforced concrete structures which were determined by corrosion of reinforcing bar due to chloride ion content. This method was based on the equations derived from a series of experiments under various conditions of materials, structures and environments. In order to study the applicability of this prediction method to existing structures, a reinforced concrete structure in an ocean environment constructed 30 years ago was investigated. For cracking of concrete and corrosion of reinforcing bar, the predicted results were almost in agreement with the results of the field investigation. Consequently, the proposed method showed validity on life prediction of reinforced concrete structures deteriorated by chloride induced corrosion. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 867793.
