Synthesis and X-ray structure of C2-C84(22)(CF3)6

C 2 -C 84 (22)(CF 3 ) 6 was isolated by HPLC from the products of trifluoromethylation of fullerene C 84 . Its molecular structure elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction has an addition pattern with a six-membered chain of para additions of CF 3 groups. C 2 -C 84 (22)(CF 3 ) 6 is the most stable isomer on a pathway to the known C 2 and D 2 isomers of C 84 (22)(CF 3 ) 12 ; the molecular structure of the latter was refined with a better accuracy.
