Maharishi Amrit Kalash, an ayurvedic medicinal preparation, enhances cholinergic enzymes in aged guinea pig brain

The effect of orally fed Maharishi Amrit Kalash was examined on the activitie s of cholinergic enzymes in the guinea pig brain. The acti vi ty of the cholin ergic enzymes viz. choline-acetyl transferase and acetylcholinesterase enzymes was found to be reduced signifi cantl y (?<0.05) in th e various regions of CNS of the aged guinea pigs. Oral admini strati on of MAK(500 mg/kg body weight dail y) for 2 months significantly in creased (?<0.05) the activity of choline acetyltransferase and acetylcholinesterase in the older animals. The present study indicates th at this food supplement can be helpful in all evi ­ ating th e cholinergic defic it s in th e o ld age.
