Tuberculous Breast Abscess

2009
We report a rare case of breast abscess due to infection with mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although breast tuberculosis seemed likely, the patient was not treated with anti-TB drugs because no focus of tuberculosis was found elsewhere in the body. Recurrence of the abscess provided evidence for breast tuberculosis after aspiration of the abscess was performed. Cultures grown using the MGIT system showed mycobacterium tuberculosis. Misdiagnosis is frequent because investigations such as microscopy and culture are often negative.
