Synthesis,characterization and catalysis of N-heterocyclic palladium complex

Trans-[1,3-bis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-4,5-dihydroimidazolylidene]PdCl2(pyridine) has been prepared. The method of preparation is given in detail.The complex was fully characterized by NMR,X-ray and EA. The X-ray molecular structure of the complex is reported. The crystal is triclinic,space group P-1 with a=1.456 7(2) nm,b=1.652 2(3) nm,c=2.213 3(4) nm,α=92.58(3)°,β=92.28(3)°,γ=93.29(3)°,Mr=1 161.71,V=5.307 9(18) nm3,Dc=1.396,Z=2,F(000)=1 138. For the first time,the complex has been tested in the cross-coupling reaction of phenylhalides(iodide,bromide,chloride) with phenylthiol to afford thioether,and it was found to be catalytically active in this C-S reaction. The coupling of bromo-and iodobenzene are more efficient than chlorobenzene in corresponding reactions.
