Palladium-Catalyzed Transfer Hydrogenation of Aromatic Nitro Compounds — An Unusual Chain Elongation.

Treatment of nitro-substituted acetophenones with alcohols in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium on magnesium-lanthanum mixed oxide provides the corresponding aromatic amines and also unexpected chain elongation products.
