Hypoglycemic effect of Teucrium polium in rats

1997
Hypoglycemic effect of T. polium was studied in healthy rats submitted to glucose tolerance tests. The decoction of T. polium slightly, but not significantly attenuated the glycemia levels when compared with oral antidiabetic agent glicazide. This finding indicates that T. polium, used in folk medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, does not have an evident hypoglycemic effect.
