Ultrathin Cuprite Film on Pt(111) with High Reactivity to CO

A highly ordered copper(I) oxide film grown on the Pt(111) substrate presents extremely high reactivity to CO molecules. Systematic scanning tunneling microscopy experiments in combination with density-functional theory calculations demonstrate the reaction occurs at the peripheries of the Cu2O islands where low-coordinated oxygen atoms are located.
