REMEDIATION OF SOIL POLLUTED BY HEAVY HYDROCARBONS AND PAHs BY APPLICATION OF BIOLOGICAL PROMOTERS: INTEGRATED STUDY ON REAL SCALE

2008
This study, that was carried out on a large scale, is focused on a soil contaminated mainly by hydrocarbons C>12 and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), that has been treated with a bioremediation method, type landfarming, inoculating an enzymatic-microbial compound that was aimed at accelerating and optimising natural biological degradation processes. Before and after the above mentioned treatment the concentration of hydrocarbons and PAHs were measured. Moreover some ecotoxicological and microbiological tests were also performed. Chemical analyses showed a good efficiency in the reduction of pollutants, while toxicological and phytotoxicity tests evidenced a great improvement of the soil.
