Effect of Finasteride on expression of CD_(34), VEGF and bFGF in the hyperplastic prostate tissue of men

Objective:To investigate the effect of finasteride on expression of CD34, VEGF and bFGF in the hyperplastic prostate tissue of men.Methods:CD34,VEGF and bFGF expression in the prostatic tissues were studied by means of immunohistochemical method in 80 patients undergone prostatectomy,40 of them had taken finasteride and the other 40 did not. A comparative study of clinical data and immunohistochemical parameters was made between the 2 groups.Results:The microvascular density as studied by immunohistochemistry was much less in the finasteride group(P0.001).The expressions of VEGF and bFGF were also different between the 2 groups(P0.01).Conclusions:Finasteride is effective in inhibiting the expression of CD34,VEGF and bFGF in the hyperplastic prostate tissue of men,and it may play an important role in the suppression of angiogenesis and shrink of prostate.
