Validación de la escala CIWA en pacientes mexicanos con síndrome de supresión alcohólica

Background: The symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can be quantified and treated only when symptoms exceed a threshold of severity. The instrument used to measure the severity of this syndrome is the scale: Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol Scale (CIWA Shaw et al 1981), amended in 1989 to: CIWA-Ar, this scale has been shown effective in determining the severity. objective: Validate CIWA scale, in Spanish, Mexican patients with deletion syndrome alcoholic. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional survey in Mexican subjects with a diagnosis of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. CIWA-Ar scale was translated from English to Castilian and studied analysis of reliability and validity of the instrument for measuring the severity of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. results: 71 subjects with alcohol withdrawal to that applied to CIWA-Ar scale in spanish. The index of internal consistency of the instrument was 0.894; by correlating each item with the total instrument, we find low correlation indexes 2 items: 1) Headache r = 0.091 and 2) Nausea, vomiting, r = 0.271, with a new value of reliability of the scale if these items are removed 0912 and 0905 respectively, it is suggested that could be eliminated. Re-test reliability test: ρI = 0.843, The Pearson correlation analysis results were: r 2 = 0.835 and r = 0.9140. Conclusion : The CIWA-Ar scale in Spanish, is a reliable and valid measuring instrument to determine the severity of alcohol withdrawal syndrome in Mexican population.
