Morphological and Biochemical Characteristics of Human Tubular Epithelial Cells “In Culture” Deriving from Nephronophthisis
1991
Microdissected cortical slices of renal fragments obtained from nephronophthisis affected children were cultured “in vitro” and characterized by immunohystochemical and electrophoretic techniques. At confluence, cultured cells from nephronophthisis showed characteristics which were typical of normal tubules i.e. presence of cytokeratin, positivity for succinic dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase stainings and presented no morphologic alterations. Analysis by twodimensional electrophoresis of cellular extracts revealed however the absence of a polypeptide with M.W. of 120.000 and a pI = 4.8. This alteration may have pathogenetic relevance.
