Seismic Acquisition Design Using 3D Target-Oriented Visibility Analysis

2012
Summary Two-way wave equation based seismic visibility analysis is applied to 3D target-oriented acquisition design for extracting optimal acquisition parameters. An analysis work flow based on a stacked energy rose diagram is used to evaluate offset and azimuth distribution for a particular shot geometry. The energy rose diagram is then used in conjunction with shot visibility maps to guide selection of optimal 3D acquisition parameters. The primary objective of this case study is to evaluate alternative acquisition geometries for imaging a target under a seismic obscured gas zone. The visibility studies support wide azimuth and long offset acquisition geometries to provide imaging uplift for the target under the seismic obscured zone.
