Control of Temperature Changes in Daily Life with Thermochromic Green Pigments

2020
Abstract In this study, intelligent thermochromic building coatings were prepared to reduce the heating and cooling load of the building by creating a thermally comfortable building environment. Reversible effects of thermochromic building coatings between energy absorber, energy reflective states were investigated. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTEOS), tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), thermochromic pigment-based thermochromic coatings were prepared with the sol-gel spraying method. Coatings were heat-treated at 80°C and characterization studies were performed. It has been determined that the sample contains the silicon oxide and amorphous phase. The average grain size of the sol was found to be 6.021 μm. The development of thermochromic coatings to be utilized in buildings, urban structures were aimed. Coatings obtained in a low-cost manner exhibited thermochromic properties. The resulting coatings provided good temperature sensitivity, reversibility.
