Development of the Social Support System for the Elderly in the Russian Federation as a Basis for Successful Aging

The relevance of the problem is due to the process of demographic aging of the population and, accordingly, formation of effective socio-economic and socio-political measures to support senior citizens of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the article is to analyze the development of the system of social support for the elderly in the Russian Federation as a basis for successful aging and one of the most important directions of modern social policy of the state. The leading approach to the study of this problem is structural and functional, which enables to identify the features of the general (societal) system of social protection and support for senior citizens in the Russian Federation. In this context, social protection is defined as a social guarantee of a decent quality of life in the event of social risks, including old age. Social mechanisms for solving financial, organizational and legislative problems of ensuring a decent quality of life for the elderly population are considered in the article. The normative-legal acts regulating the activities of federal and regional authorities in the sphere of social support measures for the elderly are presented. The materials of the article can be useful for further studies of the problems of quality of life of the elderly population, in the process of teaching social disciplines to improve the efficiency of education.
