Direct neutron capture in 238U (n, γ) 239U0679

Abstract Evidence for the presence of a direct reaction amplitude is presented for the neutron capture γ ray at 4.059 MeV in 238 U (n, γ) 239 U. A cross-section interference analysis shows that the potential capture 0679 cross section for this γ ray is ∼ 0.0016 barns at a neutron energy of 1 eV.
