Dynamic Finite Element Model Improvement of a PCB Structure

1999
The purpose of this research is to apply an eigensensitivity-based method to develop an accurate representation of the in-service boundary conditions of structures. By implementing the method on a printed circuit board (PCB) supported on its three edges by two opposite wedge retainers and a plug-in connector, it is shown to be effective in producing an accurate finite element model of the PCB structure. The result shows that the percentage error in the fundamental frequency of the PCB finite element model is substantially reduced from 22.3% to 1.3%. Furthermore, convergence to an accurate finite element model is found to be rapid.
