An Optimized Control Model of Battery Energy Storage Systems for Primary Frequency Response

This paper proposes an optimal model of output power of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the primary frequency response. A good level of state of charge (SOC) of BESS can extend the lifetime of BESS. This model can not only maintain a good level of SOC, but also optimize the output power of BESS. In addition, this paper presents a new method to confirm coefficients of the model in terms of types of BESS, which can optimal the output power and extend the lifetime. The model is applied in the primary frequency response under the condition of a single area power system. The simulation can prove validity of the model in the primary frequency response.
