FieldMeasurements ofLocal IceLoad on a Ship Hull inPack IceoftheSouthern Sea ofOkhotsk

Field tests havebeenperformed onboardSoya, an icebreaking patrol shipofJapanCoastGuard(JCG), inthree winters of2005,2006and2007whenshesailed ice-covered watersinthesouthern partoftheSeaofOkhotsk. Inthetest, local iceloads acting ontheshiphullweremeasured. Onboard measurements oficeconditions including icethickness andice concentration werealsoperformed. Measured dataweredivided intosegments of2km inlength. Themaximumiceload, average iceconcentration and icethickness were calculated as representative values foreachsegment. Thispaperdescribes the methodofthefield test. Iceloaddatameasured inthethree winters arepresented. Effects oficethickness andconcentration ontheiceloads arediscussed.
