Fully Parameterized Wing Model for Preliminary Design

2010
This article presents the development of a framework for the preliminary design of aircraft wings. The framework enables the fast assessment of the performance a specic wing conguration based on medium delity computational codes. Specically, the proposed framework can generate arbitrary wing planforms, with the corresponding structural nite element model and aerodynamic loads. The fully parameterized nite element model is constructed with ANSYS and the aerodynamic loads are estimated with VORLAX. Therefore, the framework can be used to investigate trends and perform design optimization. In this paper, the proposed tool is used to estimate the relationship between weight and root bending stress.
