The latest vacuum photodetectors for scintillating fiber read out

1998
In applications such as radiation measurement and medical instrumentation, development for equipment which utilize scintillating fibers or combination of plastic scintillators and wave length shifters has been continually progressed. This has led to a strong demand for multianode photodetectors. Additionally, in the recent experiments for high energy physics (HEP), luminosity and energy of beams have been increased to achieve the precise measurement. As a result, the size of the detector as well as number of read out channels have been also increased. In such case, multianode photodetectors with reasonable cost performance is required. Hamamatsu is continuously developing new types of photodetectors to keep up with those trends. The performance and the prime features of the latest vacuum photodetectors for scintillating fiber read out are discussed in this paper.
