Employment of Laser Beam Self-Phase Modulation for Detecting Adulterations in Light-Absorbing Commercial Fluids

2019
In recent years, the increasing number of detected criminal adulterations of beverages for human consumption, for example milk, wine, and oil, has necessitated the development of precise, fast, and portable analytical inspection techniques. Optical methods are particularly promising in this context. In this communication, we propose the employment of self-phase modulation for evaluating simple adulteration, such as the addition of water, of light-absorbing commercial fluids. The technique was found to be sensitive for determining the dilution of cola soft drinks and grape juice with water.
