Historically, these fractures are referred to as «Jones» fractures, as they were first described by Sir Robert Jones in 1902 . This term often leads to confusion when trying to describe these types of injury, as they are separated in specific categories which differ from those initially described by Jones and their treatment is directly correlated with their classification. The outcome is dependent on their accurate classification, the choice of their ideal treatment and the use of the proper technique.
