Optical pulse generator and the optical pulse generation method

Provided are an optical pulse generation device and a method for generating an optical pulse capable of generating optical pulse sequences of an arbitrary pattern. An optical pulse generation device (1) comprises a first optical modulator (21) for generating an optical pulse by modulating input light with a first modulation signal (SIG1); a second optical modulator (41) for carrying out modulation with a second modulation signal (SIG2) which is synchronized with said first modulation signal (SIG1) and has a signal pattern that is set such that only a specific part of optical pulses from among said optical pulses is output; and a dispersion compensator (30) for compensating for the chirp of the optical pulse output from said first optical modulator (21).
