Making Myths and Policing Borders: NAASR and the Critical Study of Religion

2013
AbstractThis essay examines the evolving relationship between NAASR and the AAR, paying special attention to how the borders between NAASR and the AAR have been established and how they are patrolled. It discusses the stakes of the territorial dispute between the two organizations: symbolic capital in the form of institutional and intellectual prestige; and economic capital in the form of employment as teachers and researchers in colleges, universities, and related institutions.
