Design of a temperature-sensing smart textile based on Fiber Bragg Grating sensor in CYTOP fiber

2019
We report the design of a fiber-optic sensor embedded in a textile, for possible applications in wearable smart textiles. The sensor is a CYTOP (cyclic transparent fluoropolymer) fiber Bragg grating (FBG), embedded into a cloth by manual sewing. The sensor can read the temperature variation; a calibration has been performed showing a sensitivity of 17.1 pm/K, and the possibility to detect rapid changes of the temperature.
