The effect of DNA on the kinetics of reactions of propyl gallate radicals

1978
1. Propyl gallate oxidation in alcoholic NaOH solution has been shown to lead to the formation of radicals. 2. The nature of the radicals formed in this oxidation depends on the NaOH concentration, o-semiquinone ion-radicals being formed in 0.2 M NaOH, and semiquinone ion-radicals, which are subsequently converted into gallic acid radicals, in 2 M NaOH. 3. Addition of DNA reduces the concentrations of the semiquinone ion-radical in 0.2 M NaOH, and promotes the conversion of these radicals into gallic acid radicals in 2 M NaOH.
