Synthesis of zeolites using organosilicon compounds as structure-directing agents

1994
Zeolites ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 are synthesized using the organosilicon compound N-trimethoxysilylpropyltri-N- butylammonium as structure-directing agent. For ZSM-5, results from thermogravimetric analyses and 13C and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy prove that the organosilicon compound resides intact at the channel intersections and that the silicon atom in this species is located in a framework position. The consequences of this new type of structure direction towards the synthesis of new microporous materials are discussed.
