Comparação do gasto energético de caminhar e correr a mesma distância

2012
Walking and running are two types of exercises used to increase energy expenditure and body weight control. In this sense, the present study aimed to investigate the energy expenditure for walking and running the same distance. Participated ten trained men, aged between 18 and 35 years. All the volunteers were submitted to two cardiopulmonary submaximal exercise tests on a treadmill, a distance of 2.0 miles in each test was covered. The tests were performed on different days, separated by a period of 48 to 72 hours. One of them was walking in the intensity of 3.0 mph for 40 minutes and the other was running in the intensity of 6.0 mph for 20 minutes. The results of the energy expenditure of running were superior to walking ( p ≤ 0.01) with values of 12.3 + 1.19 kcal/min and 245.4 + 24.8 kcal in 20 minutes of running, and 4.7 + 0.4 kcal/min and 184.8 + 23.3 kcal in 40 minutes of walking. The data indicate that the running has a higher energy expenditure than walking, in young men, been more appropriately run the same distance to walk for promotion and maintenance of health and body weight control.
