Typ-2-Diabetes-mellitus: Betreuung von chronisch Kranken in der Hausarztpraxis

Summary Type-2-Diabetes Mellitus: Therapy of the Chronically ill in General Medicine The medical care of chronically ill persons is getting more important in the tasks of the primary care physicians. The authors summarize results of a quality control study including all patients with type-2-diabetes mellitus (DM) who visited the office of eleven general practitioners in a geographically coherent region during a defined time period in order to describe quality and needs of care of patients with type-2-diabetes. In addition the authors discuss practical and ethical implications and introduce conceptual alternatives to improve the situation of care especially in patients for whom the caring physicians' assessment of the compliance was assessed as bad. The latter might be a way to assure more successful management of many patients with chronic diseases.
