Currents treatment modalities for Hirschsprung’s disease

2012
Hirschsprung’s disease is a complex congenital anomaly, is a curable disease with a low mortality rate. An early diagnosis is mandatory to prevent complications such as enterocolitis and for a proper treatment. In case of clinical suspicion, the gold standard for the diagnosis is suction rectal biopsy. The treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease consists in surgical removal of the aganglionic bowel and laparoscopic approaches can provide results which overlap those of open surgery and can be used also to treat certain complications. An adequate follow-up is mandatory to control possible complications and to implement prompt management. Keywords: Hirschsprung; aganglionosis; treatment.
