Gamma-Delta T Cells in the Skin

2017
The skin forms the body’s primary interface with the environment and, as such, is equipped with a network of immune cells to provide the first line of defence against infection and injury. While the role of conventional alpha-beta (αβ) T cell receptor (TCR) expressing lymphocytes in skin homeostasis and pathology has been studied in great detail, emerging evidence also points to an important role of gamma-delta (γδ) TCR expressing T cells. The aim of this chapter is to review the biology of γδ T cells in the pathophysiology of the skin.
