Advanced applications of bifacial solar modulus

2003
Bifacial PV panels have been developed by using bifacial solar cells which are now ready for mass production. In order to verify the field performance of the bifacial PV panel, a fence-integrated system was constructed on a building rooftop as one of the applications. The PV array consists of two vertically installed sub-arrays arranged each other at right angles (one facing south/north, the other east/west). Based on the one-month operation and simulation studies, the followings have been confirmed. (1) The system can generate electric power equivalent to that by conventional mono-facial array fixed to south with an optimum tilt. (2) Output power rapidly rises up with sunrise and maintained almost flat high level until sunset on a fine day, which provide us an ideal daily and yearly power distributions. (3) Stimulation tells us that, with keeping the advantages of above features, this system can be applied to any buildings regardless of their construction azimuth angle.
