Plagiarism and Referencing

2020
In this chapter we focus on two things: plagiarism; and how to avoid it by referencing correctly. Plagiarism is presenting or submitting someone else's work (or ideas) as your own, either intentionally or unintentionally. To prevent this from happening, as a new Geography student you need to establish good referencing techniques early in your degree. There are many recognised systems of referencing, and your new university degree programme may have its own preferred style. In this chapter we explore one of the commonest systems of referencing, the Harvard, or author-date, system.
